Everyone wants to be unique. Well, the good news is everyone is. So the worry should not be about how ‘to become’ unique but about how ‘to find’ one’s uniqueness. Where most people falter is when they start their search for ‘uniqueness’ in ‘what they do’. It’s actually about ‘who you are’. Out for a jog last evening, I was noticing the number of individual houses being razed to the ground in Delhi every day and unattractive clonish matchbox looking apartments taking their place. I came back home and a dance competition show was on TV where one after another the dancers competed on what seemed like matching acrobatics/ pole vaults / circus trapeze. I tried hard to find individual uniqueness but found none. Physical exercise benchmarks had replaced nuanced expression as differentiators.
